Our lodge

Our lodge

Arakan Nature Lodge stands for the adventure of bringing a positive impact in an environment-loving, culturally sensitive way to one of Myanmar's most beautiful, peaceful yet deprived regions - to Southern Rakhine State. You'll be surprised seeing the originality of local life, the crystal clear water of the sea and the lack of beach rubbish wherever you look.  You can contribute to its sustainable development by being our guest. Welcome to Arakan Nature Lodge!

Living cool

We want to offer our guest a genuine experience of the comforts of traditional Rakhine houses cooled naturally by the daily sea breeze. We facilitate taking a break on many levels - including design. Our design inputs thus remain intentionally minimal, mirroring the modest way of life of Rakhine society at large.

The houses and rooms show the original beauty of their natural materials and offer spectacular sea and sunset views. They all have their own attached spaces out into nature, breathing the simplicity of our location and coming alive with the course of daylight moving across the sky. All our houses come with a cosy lighting concept to stay comfortable throughout the night.

Our lodgings were planned and built individually with various carpenter teams from the villages around. This makes us different insofar that every beach house is unique within the defined square meters allotted. We remain in local mode - but not without some new features with regards to glassless windows and their shades and shutters. A more generous size than traditionally provided of covered terrace space is also an add-on.

Running green

Apart from building with sustainable building materials only, Arakan Nature Lodge is 100% solar powered 24h/day. Our sanitation concept embodies true eco lodge practices, introducing composting toilets - but wait! Ours are a luxury version (Wostman Ecology, Sweden) called EcoDry. Read and see more about them (in case you might be concerned) in our "luxury composting toilet" blog post (link). We also recycle our kitchen and laundry grey water, running it through a wastewater garden to reuse it for irrigation. Of course we implement a contemporary recycling concept as befits any lodge that calls itself eco.

Thriving hearty

We don't cook animals from far away, unhappy places. Instead, we eat and offer fresh local seafood based on traditional recipes as well as fusion-cuisine with a clear emphasis on delicious vegetarian daily options. As our guest you may team up with us to bake your own bread in the clay oven or if you feel like, join our kitchen and have fun cooking together.

From end of October 2017 you will be welcome to stay with us at:

Arakan Beach Houses are built on traditional stilts out of recycled ironwood and bamboo.
They are naturally thatched with Nipa roofs. Three are set on the beachfront, and the other two are set back a little to emphasize the feeling of being in a coconut grove. They have a stretch of greenery in front before opening up to the sea.

Arakan Beach Houses XL are extra spacious and impress with understated grandeur combined with simplicity.
Two are more elevated and slightly set back to honour the full picture of the coconut grove, cost views and the sea. One stands as close as can be to the beachfront.

The Arakan Garden House is set back within the coconut grove just 50 meters from the beach line and built on high stilts.
It has two separate rooms with a balcony each. The rooms are inter-connected by a sea view terrace. Both rooms come with their own bathroom/toilet.

Traveller's Lodgings

In keeping with our own diversity-friendly philosophy and the traditional Rakhine hospitality towards travellers passing by from far away places, simpler overnight options will be available on request. Contact our lodge directly to find out what they are.

We will be happy seeing you around!
